Welcome to my monastic tour of Eritrea!
In January of 2024, I visited Eritrea turning what was initially a family visit into a month-long expedition across the south of Eritrea exploring the religious arts and architectures preserved within distant monasteries and localized churches.
The map above was my biggest (and only) tool to navigating the region as we did not have access to GPS here. The entire trip was based on a map and asking locals around the nearby villages if they knew someone willing to point my uncle and I in the right direction.
