BIET ENDA ARAGAI - ADI QUALA

BIET Enda Aragai.

While walking to Mariam Tsion, my aunt who was with us casually mentioned there was a new church built just around the way from the monastery. Keeping my obsession with the religious arts on this trip in mind, she recommended stopping by.

Excerpts from my journal:

“There was another church near Mariam Tsion called Enda Aragai, newly constructed with hand-painted scenes inside. Again, it was thanks to the stars we stumbled into a priest who happened to have the keys to the entrance, otherwise we wouldn’t have had the luck to go in. Everyone else was outside near Mariam Tsion for Timket. My mom says he was waiting for us.

Keshi Kesete was gracious to let my mom, my aunt, my uncle, and myself in for a tour. He would describe the scenes as snapshot moments from the Bible. This church was incredible, magnificent, and vibrant!”

Keshi Kesete and I — He graciously opened the church for a private tour, sharing details about each of the artworks as we passed like how all the work was done by a single artist who painted directly onto the walls.
